Happy New Year, folks!
I feel like I’ve been neglecting pole and my blog for the past couple of months due to all the festive celebrations and various events in my life. I admit, I’ve not been training for myself and I work out in classes only once a week. That’s certainly very far from what I should be doing! Thankfully, I managed to score some private classes with a couple of amazing pole dancers in Hong Kong, and I think that made up for it!
I did both private sessions on the SAME DAY, one after another with some travelling time in-between. So I was mighty tired by the end of it. But nothing could stop me from going to Lan Kwai Fong after!

I visited MPS sometime in July 2012 for a practice session but it was closed. So I’m really glad I managed to visit it this time! They have two studios now but I went to the one at Lai Chi Kok. I was pretty early so I made myself comfortable while Melody taught one of her classes. I was so excited to finally be able to attend one of her classes.
It was so cold that it was a little tough for me to stay on the pole even after warming up. I had to use quite abit of grip aids. Melody taught me a couple of spin combos as well as getting into Marlo’s Bird of Paradise and the Plus Sign properly.
The BOP was PAINFUL. I felt like my shoulder was going to pop! That move needs ALOT more work now in terms of shoulder flexibility. You can see how it’s supposed to look like upwards and downwards below. I took these images off Google images and they’re actually screenshots of Marlo Fisken (1st one) and Melody Rose‘s (2nd one) YouTube videos I think. I hope it’s okay to post them here, if not….I’m sorry, MARLO and MELODY, and you both are awesomeeeeezzzz. 😀

Hooray! See below for my successful Plus Sign! It can definitely be improved. It will be nicer if I can hook the pole at my armpit instead of my elbow. One day…
Here’s a really good tip for everyone: Always, always, always listen to your teacher and help her to help you spot you properly. If not, you’ll end up in alot more pain than you can imagine. It was indescribable for the first minute or two. Ouch.
Thank you so much, Melody, for a fun private class! Thanks for all your advice as well. Looking forward to the next time I head down to MPS again. 🙂

After MPS, I took the MTR to Sheung Wan for my next pole class. This was my first time coming to PPS and I love how the entire studio is in purple! There’s a pretty cozy feel to the whole place.
I booked a private session with…Amy Hazel Price! When I wrote in to book a private, I was told that Amy was going to take my private class and I was so excited! Just a week before emailing, I had watched the Miss Pole Dance Australia 2014 show so I recognise her from it!
Amy taught me a couple of her signature moves as well as some static pole moves. She also taught me how to get into the Rainbow Marchenko!!! Now, if you’ve read my blog, you’d know that this move is my ultimate pole goal. She encouraged me and said I can start working towards it, especially with stretches for my shoulders. See below for Marion Crampe and her famous Rainbow Marchenko! One day…

Amy’s incredibly nice! And really cute! I found out that she’s leaving Hong Kong and moving to Melbourne to start teaching in Fontaine Bradbury’s studio in January 2014. Wishing her all the best for her future! 🙂
MY HONGKONG’N’POLE EXPERIENCE
NUMBER ONE – I have very stiff shoulders. Made worse by sitting at the desk all day and crouching over a computer. Time to work on shoulder flexibility.
NUMBER TWO – Flexibility still very far off. Need to train harder. For that, I’ve removed the x-stage pole in my room to create room space for me to stretch.
NUMBER THREE – It’s never too early to start training for something.
NUMBER FOUR – Always help your instructor to spot you. If not, you might suffer terrible repercussions. Trust me on this.
NUMBER FIVE – One can never have too many pole shorts. 🙂
NOT YOUR USUAL PUBLIC MENACE
There I go again, doing random weird things. I’m glad Sean is willing to be my photographer at all times. He says he can see the cogs turning in my head on how I can get into this, or that, when we’re just walking around in Disneyland.
Getting bendy with the globe of Tomorrowland, and splits in front of Mystic Manor. No poling, it was too cold!
THAT’S ALL FOLKS!
Hope you’ve enjoyed reading this entry! I’ll be updating the Studios Visited page with the studios’ information too.
Lastly, 22 days to go to the West Australian Pole Camp! I’ve not been training lately, so those 15 workshops (5 a day, almost back-to-back) are going to kill me. But whatever my fate is going to be, I can’t wait!
Happy mid-week! 🙂
